Officials said on Wednesday that Israeli attacks in Gaza killed at least 92 people, including women, children, and two journalists. Israel is getting ready to increase its military actions in the area, and the serious conflict is now in its 20th month.
On Wednesday, two Israeli airstrikes hit an area in central Gaza. At least 33 people were killed and 86 were injured, including some children. Health officials said the number of deaths might be higher.
The Israeli army did not immediately say anything about the attacks.
This news followed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement on Wednesday that he is not sure if three hostages, who were thought to be alive in Gaza, are still alive. This statement came a day after U.S. President Donald Trump said that only 21 out of 24 hostages believed to be alive had survived.
The news made the families of the people still held in Gaza very worried.
More violence happened on Wednesday, soon after Israel agreed to a plan to do more in Gaza. This plan might mean taking over Gaza, keeping the areas they have taken, making Palestinians move to southern Gaza, and controlling how aid is given out, maybe with private security companies.
Health officials reported that Wednesday's strikes involved two attacks on a busy market in Gaza City.
Videos shared online reportedly showed the scene after, with dead men found, including one still sitting in a chair inside a Thai restaurant where locals met, and several children lying on the ground, covered in blood.
According to the media office in Gaza, journalist Yahya Sobeih was among the people who died. He worked independently for several local news organizations. Recently, he had posted a picture of his new baby daughter on Instagram.
People who were hurt in the explosions, some with serious injuries, were taken to Al-Shifa Hospital nearby, according to Zaher al-Wahidi, a spokesperson for the Gaza health ministry.
The media office said that Nour Abdu, a local journalist, was killed while reporting on an attack at a school in Gaza City on Wednesday morning. The school was being used as a shelter. Officials at Al-Ahli Hospital said this attack killed 16 people. Attacks in other areas killed at least 16 more people.
Hospital officials said that 27 people died in an attack on a school on Tuesday night. Hundreds of Palestinians were staying there. The people who died included nine women and three children. The school has been attacked several times since the war started.
Israel says Hamas is responsible for the deaths because they use places like schools to operate.
The war started when fighters from Hamas attacked southern Israel. They killed 1,200 people and took about 250 people as hostages.
Israel is also preparing many reserve soldiers for the plan, which they say will happen slowly after Trump's visit ends this month.
If the fighting gets worse, more people will probably die. Israel already controls about half of Gaza and is taking more control for a long time. This could mean it becomes a military occupation. If this happens, people will ask how Israel plans to rule the area, especially as it thinks about following Trump's idea to take control of Gaza.
According to health officials in Palestine, the Israeli attacks have killed over 52,000 people in Gaza. Many of the people killed were women and children.
