Officials said on Wednesday that Israeli attacks in Gaza killed at least 92 people, including women, children, and two journalists. Israel is getting ready to increase its military actions in the area, and the war has now been going on for 20 months.
Wednesday saw two Israeli airstrikes in central Gaza which resulted in the deaths of no fewer than 33 individuals and injuries to 86, among them numerous children, although health authorities anticipate the final death count will exceed this figure.
The Israeli military did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the strikes.
On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was not sure if three hostages, who were thought to be alive in Gaza, were still alive. This statement came a day after US President Donald Trump said that only 21 out of 24 hostages believed to be alive had survived.
The news plunged families of remaining captives in Gaza into panic.
More violence happened on Wednesday, just after Israel agreed to increase its actions in the Palestinian area. This plan involves taking over Gaza, keeping control of areas they have taken, making Palestinians move to southern Gaza, and managing how aid is given out with private security companies.
Health officials reported that Wednesday's airstrikes encompassed two assaults on a densely populated market district within Gaza City.
Videos shared online reportedly showed what happened afterwards, with men found dead, including one still sitting in a chair inside a Thai restaurant where local people often meet, and several children lying still on the ground, covered in blood.
Among the casualties, according to Gaza's media office, was journalist Yahya Sobeih, a freelancer for various local publications, who had recently posted a photo on Instagram of his infant daughter.
Individuals injured in the explosions, including those with severe wounds, were transported to Al-Shifa Hospital in the vicinity, as confirmed by Zaher al-Wahidi, a spokesperson for the Gaza health ministry, to The Associated Press.
The media office reported that Nour Abdu, another local journalist, tragically lost her life while reporting on an assault early Wednesday morning at a school repurposed as a shelter in Gaza City. Officials at Al-Ahli Hospital indicated that strike resulted in 16 fatalities, while attacks elsewhere claimed at least 16 additional lives.
A Tuesday night assault on a school housing hundreds of displaced Palestinians resulted in 27 fatalities, including nine women and three children, according to officials at Al-Aqsa Hospital; this institution has been repeatedly hit since the conflict's inception.
Israel attributes the fatalities to Hamas, asserting the organisation utilises civilian facilities, such as educational institutions, for its operations.
The war started after militants led by Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 people hostage.
In preparation for the implementation of the plan, Israel is also mobilizing tens of thousands of reserve soldiers. Israeli authorities have stated that the plan will be executed incrementally and will not commence until after President Trump concludes his regional visit later this month.
If the fighting gets worse, more people will probably die. Israel already controls about half of Gaza, and if they keep control for a long time, it could lead to a military occupation. This would make people ask how Israel plans to rule the area, especially as they are thinking about putting Trump's idea to take over Gaza into action.
To date, Palestinian health authorities report that the Israeli military operation has resulted in over 52,000 fatalities in Gaza, a significant proportion being women and children; these officials do not differentiate between fighters and non-combatants.
