Landowners, ranchers and business owners in Texas’s Big Bend region are suing.

They want to stop the Trump administration’s border wall plans.

The group Conserve Big Bend and six landowners filed the lawsuit.

Dozens of other people along the border support them.

The administration is spending $46 billion on walls, barriers and technology.

This is along the roughly 2,000-mile southern border.

In Texas, the effort has faced many lawsuits.

It has also faced opposition from sheriffs, officials, tour guides, environmental groups and landowners.

This opposition comes from both parties.

David Keller is an archaeologist and historian who lives in the region.

He said officials were not ready for the opposition.

He said the Big Bend is not an empty place on the map.

It is their home.

The administration has waived environmental, archaeological and wildlife regulations.

It says there is an urgent need in areas of “high illegal entry.”

The plaintiffs argue that this description is wrong for Big Bend.

They cite Customs and Border Protection statistics about the region.

The region has about 500 miles of border, about one quarter of the total.

But it has only about 1% of arrests.

Laura Allen voted for Trump twice and is a former county judge.

Her family ranch would be cut by the wall.

She said arrests have dropped further since Trump returned to office.

She thanked Trump for securing the border.

She said it was time to let it go.

The plaintiffs argue Homeland Security is misusing powers given by Congress.

These powers let the agency waive regulations.

The lawsuit is the latest effort to slow the administration’s plans in Texas and elsewhere.
