A boat had an accident on a lake in California. One person was missing. On Monday, they found the person. Now, eight people have died from the accident.
On Saturday, a boat with ten people turned over near a park. The waves were big. The Coast Guard said this.
Two people were saved fast and went to a hospital. We do not know how they are. Six dead people were found on Saturday. One more dead person was found on Sunday night. The police said this. Divers looked in the lake and found the last dead person on Monday.
Kyle Parker said we cannot say the names of the people who died now. We need to tell their families first.
Some people have died in the lake by accident. This happened in the last few years. It is not common for many people to die in boat accidents. In 2022, the police said about six people die in the lake every summer. In 2021, 15 people died. This was a lot. The police do not have new numbers right now.
The storm was very strong. It surprised the weather people. They said it would rain, but not so much. The storm hit the south of the lake around 3 p.m. Matthew Chyba said the wind was strong, and the waves were big.
Chyba said, "We thought it was not very strong."
He said it was very cold there. This made the air strange.
Chyba said the waves on Tahoe were very big. He said they made the lake move a lot.
Lake Tahoe is a nice place to visit in summer. You can go boating or use a kayak. The lake is in California and Nevada. It is very deep and the water is cold.
We don't know who was on the boat that turned over. We don't know if they rented it or if it was theirs.
The storm on Saturday stopped after two hours.
Brittany Glick was on a boat with friends for a party on Saturday. The wind started to blow, and the waves got bigger. The day was sunny, but then it got cold. It was hard to see, Glick said on Monday.
It felt like a very big wave was coming. I have never seen anything like it, she said.
The boat came back after one hour. The sea was not calm, and the people got wet. Then, it started to hail.
"I was scared when I saw the boats turned over," Glick said. "The cold water made us very cold. We were shaking a lot. Our feet were cold, and our toes were blue. It was a very scary time for me. The storm came very fast. It was very scary."
A video showed boats hitting each other at the port because of strong wind.
