On Monday, the government can send some people back to other countries quickly. They cannot say no first.
The court did not say why. One judge, Sonia Sotomayor, was very angry. Two other judges agreed with her.
Tricia McLaughlin from Homeland Security said that people might soon go to other countries. She said this is good for people in America.
But a judge said one plane to South Sudan will not go now.
The people on the plane in May were from Myanmar, Vietnam and Cuba. They did bad things in America. The people in charge could not send them home fast.
If they go to South Sudan, they might go to jail, be hurt, or even die. Their lawyer, Trina Realmuto, said this.
A judge in Boston said they can still talk about their problems in court. The people are now at a navy base in Djibouti.
This case is happening because the government wants to stop people who live in the U.S. without papers.
Abigail Jackson from the White House said the President can decide about people who come to the country. He can send bad people away. She said the court agrees. The President can send away people who do bad things. This makes the country safe.
Sotomayor wrote that the court's action is dangerous. Many people could be hurt or die. She said it helps the Trump government, even though they did not follow the rules before.
She said the government can send people away. They do not tell them first. They cannot talk about it. Two other judges said yes too.
South Sudan is a new and poor country. It became free in 2011. There has been much fighting there. Now, leaders have problems, and it might start another war.
The government will decide what to do next about the order.
The court stopped a rule. This rule helped people. They could say they were not safe in another country. They could say this even if they had no other ways to stay.
He saw that sending people to South Sudan in May was wrong. He told the immigration people to let them talk to their lawyers. The immigration people put them in a big metal box in Djibouti. It was a difficult place for them and the officers.
Some countries do not want their people back from the U.S. So, the government made plans with Panama and Costa Rica. These countries will give these people a place to live. In May, people went to South Sudan. They only knew about it a short time before, Sotomayor said.
Murphy works for the government. President Joe Biden chose him. Murphy said people can go to other countries. But if they are in danger, they can tell someone.
Also, a man from Guatemala came back to the U.S. He was sent away by mistake. He said bad things happened to him in Mexico.
The judges had a similar problem. Trump wanted to send people from Venezuela to a bad prison in El Salvador. People said they were gang members. They could not speak in court to stop it.
But the judges stopped people from leaving. They said people need time to talk to a court before they go. This is because of an old law.
The court agreed with Trump before. So, many immigrants might not be able to stay in the US now.
