New York City Comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested by federal agents at an immigration court. He was taken into custody after he linked arms with someone the authorities were trying to detain. Lander was at the federal building in Manhattan, watching immigration court hearings. When agents tried to detain a man leaving a courtroom, Lander held onto him, asking to see a judicial warrant. The agents eventually separated them and arrested Lander. After his release, Lander said he was just trying to oppose Trump's immigration policies peacefully. This arrest happened during a time when there are more large-scale arrests outside immigration courtrooms across the country. Other Democratic candidates and politicians have criticized Lander's arrest.
