Por primera vez, algunas partes de Alaska tendrán una advertencia de calor. El Servicio Nacional de Meteorología ahora usa este término en lugar de "avisos meteorológicos especiales". Quieren comunicar mejor lo grave y peligroso que puede ser el clima, en vez de solo decir que las temperaturas son muy altas. La primera advertencia fue para Fairbanks, donde se esperaba que las temperaturas superaran los 85 grados Fahrenheit, lo cual no es normal para junio.
