Il Dipartimento di Stato degli Stati Uniti ha fermato per un po' i nuovi appuntamenti per il visto per gli studenti stranieri. Questo perché vogliono controllare di più quello che fanno sui social media. Questa regola non vale per chi aveva già un appuntamento fissato.

Un documento firmato dal Segretario di Stato Marco Rubio afferma che gli uffici consolari non dovrebbero programmare altri appuntamenti per i visti studenteschi finché non riceveranno indicazioni su come controllare meglio i social media.

Questa decisione è stata presa dopo che l'amministrazione Trump ha imposto delle restrizioni sugli studenti internazionali. Queste restrizioni hanno impedito all'Università di Harvard di accettare studenti stranieri e hanno tolto il permesso di soggiorno a migliaia di studenti internazionali che erano già negli Stati Uniti. L'amministrazione Biden ha continuato a controllare i profili social di chi chiede il visto.

Se il rilascio dei visti per studenti si blocca a lungo, gli studenti potrebbero non riuscire a iscriversi ai corsi estivi e autunnali. Inoltre, se ci sono meno studenti stranieri, le università potrebbero avere problemi economici.
