Kristi Noem said police are looking at a post online. Some people think James Comey wrote it. They think it asks for violence against Donald Trump.
Comey put a photo on Instagram. It showed shells on a beach. He wrote, "Nice shells on my walk." The shells looked like the numbers "86 47."
Some people who worked with Trump said Comey wanted someone to kill Trump. Noem said the police are checking this.
A popular dictionary says "86" can mean "throw out" or "refuse." It also says some people use it to mean "kill," but this is new and not common.
The message is gone now. Comey later said, "I put up a picture of shells from the beach. I thought it was a normal message. I didn't know the numbers were bad for some people."
Comey wrote something. Some people did not like it. Donald Trump Jr. said Comey wanted bad things to happen to his father.
Kash Patel from the FBI knew about the message. He talked to the Secret Service about it.
James Blair works at the White House. He said this is a tricky time because Trump is in the Middle East.
Blair wrote on X that Jim Comey wants bad people to hurt the President while he is in the Middle East.
Comey was the boss of the FBI from 2013 to 2017. Trump fired him when he was president. The FBI was checking if Russia helped Trump in the 2016 election. Comey wrote a popular book about his work.
He writes books about crime. His new book, "FDR Drive," comes out on Tuesday, and he is telling people about it.
