On Monday, the court said the government can send some people who came here to other countries quickly. These people cannot talk to the court first.
The court did not say why. One judge did not agree. She wrote a strong message.
Tricia McLaughlin from Homeland Security said they might send people to other countries soon. She said, "Get the planes ready." She also said it was "good for American people's safety."
But a judge said one plane to South Sudan cannot go now.
The people on the plane in May were from Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cuba. They did bad things in America. Officers said they could not go back home fast.
Their lawyer said they might go to jail, be hurt, or die if they go back to South Sudan.
A judge in Boston said they can still talk about their problems in court. The people are now at a navy base in Djibouti.
This case is happening. The government wants to send away many people. These people live in the US and do not have permission.
Abigail Jackson from the White House said the President can make people follow immigration rules. He can also send bad people who are not from here away. She said the court agrees the President can send people who break the law away. This makes our country safe again.
Sotomayor said the court's decision is bad. Many people might be hurt or die. She said the government won, but they did not obey the rules before.
She said the government thinks it is above the law. It can send people away without telling them. Two other judges agreed with her.
South Sudan is a new and poor country. It has had many problems and fights since 2011. In 2011, it became a country on its own. Now, there are new problems, and people are worried about another war.
The government is thinking about the paper to decide what to do next.
The court stopped a plan. This plan helped immigrants. They could say if they were in danger in another country. They could say this even if they had no other ways to stay.
He said sending people to South Sudan in May was wrong. He told the immigration workers to let the people talk to their lawyers. The immigration workers put the people in a big metal box in Djibouti. It was a hard place for them and the workers.
Some countries do not want their people back from the U.S. So, the government made plans with Panama and Costa Rica to keep these people. In May, some people went to South Sudan. They had very little time to get ready, Sotomayor said.
Murphy works for President Joe Biden. Murphy said people cannot go to other countries if it is very bad for them.
Another time, a gay man from Guatemala was sent to Mexico by mistake. He said bad things happened to him there. Then, he came back to the U.S.
The judges had a similar problem. Trump wanted to send people from Venezuela to a bad prison in El Salvador. It was hard for these people to go to court.
But the judges stopped people from leaving. They said people need time to go to court before they must go.
The court often agreed with Trump about immigration. Now, many immigrants might need to leave the country.
