Federal officials reported that at least 10 people in the U.S. have become ill due to a listeria outbreak connected to ready-to-eat food items. As a result, a producer is voluntarily recalling several of their products.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said that officials are trying to find out why people got sick from food made by Fresh & Ready Foods in California. The FDA said 10 people in California and Nevada got sick and had to go to the hospital.

The agency said the products were sold in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington. You could buy them at stores, restaurants, hospitals, hotels, small shops, airports, and on airplanes.

Signs of listeria often appear in two weeks after you eat bad food. If it's not serious, you might feel fever, muscle pain, sick stomach, tired, or have problems with your stomach. If it's more serious, you could have a headache, a stiff neck, feel confused, not be able to balance, or shake.

People from the government said they began looking into the sicknesses last year. But they couldn't find out where the sickness came from because they didn't have enough information. They started the investigation again in April. This was because government scientists found the same type of bacteria from the sickness in food samples from Fresh & Ready Foods.

Fresh & Ready Foods said they quickly fixed the problem by taking away some equipment.

The FDA found that six out of ten sick people were in the hospital before they got sick with listeria. The FDA also found that food from Fresh & Ready Foods was given to people in at least three of the hospitals where these people had been.

The CDC said they took samples from sick people between December 2023 and September 2024.

Fresh & Ready is asking people to bring back some of their food products. You can find these products by looking at the "use by" dates. These dates are between April 22 and May 19 this year. The brand names on these products are Fresh & Ready Foods, City Point Market Fresh Food to Go, and Fresh Take Crave Away.
