Republicans in the House of Representatives have shown their main idea to save money in President Trump's plan. They want to cut about $880 billion, mostly from a program called Medicaid, to help pay for $4.5 trillion in lower taxes.

The new law is very long and has started a big political fight about health care. This is the biggest fight since 2017, when Republicans tried to change the old health care law called Obamacare but could not.

Republicans say they want to stop wasting money and fix problems to save money. But Democrats worry that many Americans will not have health insurance anymore. A report says about 8.6 million people could lose their health care in the next ten years.

With the money we save, we can continue the tax cuts and keep our promise to normal families, said Rep. Brett Guthrie.

But Democrats said the cuts are bad and really mean they want to get rid of Obamacare.

Congressman Frank Pallone said that if the bill passes, many Americans will lose their health care. He also said that hospitals might close, older people might not get the care they need, and health care costs will go up for many people.

Before Republicans vote on a big bill about taxes and spending, they will have many public meetings this week to talk about different parts of it.

The future of politics is not clear.

A Republican senator, Josh Hawley from Missouri, said it would be wrong and bad for politics to cut money for health care to make taxes lower.

Eleven groups in the House are writing their parts of the plan. Republicans want to save at least $1.5 trillion. This money will help pay for keeping the tax laws from 2017. These laws were approved when Trump was president and will end this year.

Many people paid close attention to the Energy and Commerce Committee. This committee was asked to find $880 billion in savings. They reached this goal mostly by cutting healthcare spending. They also ended some green energy plans from when President Biden was in charge. An early report said the committee's ideas would lower the country's debt by $912 billion over ten years. More than $715 billion of this money would come from the healthcare changes.

The plan saves money by changing Medicaid, which helps poor Americans get health care, and the Affordable Care Act, which helps millions more people get health insurance.

To get Medicaid, some adults who are healthy and don't have children would need to work, study, or help others for 80 hours each month. People would also need to show they can be in the program two times a year instead of one. Also, to get health insurance from the Affordable Care Act, people would need to prove how much money they make more carefully.

This could make people leave the program more often and make it hard for them to keep their coverage, especially if they live far from an office where they have to go to show how much money they make. But Republicans think this will help make sure the program only helps people who should get it.

Some people with Medicaid who earn more money might need to pay a little for some health services. You would not pay for emergency room visits, care for pregnant women, doctor visits for kids, or regular check-ups. The most you would pay is $35 for each visit.

Also, people cannot get help from Medicaid if their house is worth more than one million dollars.

The new law also includes immigrants who are in the country without permission or papers. It will give states like New York or California 10% less money if they let these immigrants get health care help. To get health care from the new law, people must show they have the right to be here legally.

Other changes would mean all states pay more.

Because the government gave money, more people in many states now have health insurance called Medicaid. But a new law would stop the extra money they got during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They would stop the special tax on hospitals and doctors.

The energy parts of the law are shorter, but they change some climate plans that President Biden made law before.

It suggests taking away money for some energy loans and programs. It also wants to make it faster to get permission for natural gas and oil pipes.
