According to federal officials, at least 10 people in the U.S. have become ill due to a listeria outbreak connected to ready-to-eat food products. As a result, a producer is voluntarily recalling several of these products.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Saturday that officials are looking into a sickness outbreak. This outbreak is linked to food made by Fresh & Ready Foods LLC in San Fernando, California. The FDA said that 10 people in California and Nevada got sick and had to go to the hospital.

The agency said the products were sold in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington. You could buy them in different places like shops, hospitals, hotels, small stores, airports, and on planes.

If you eat food with Listeria, you usually start to feel sick in about two weeks. If you are only a little sick, you might have a fever, sore muscles, feel sick in your stomach, feel tired, throw up, or have diarrhea. If you are more sick, you might have a headache, a stiff neck, feel confused, have trouble walking, or have fits.

Government officials said they started looking into the recent sicknesses last year. But they did not have enough proof to find where the sickness came from. They said they started the investigation again in April. At that time, food safety workers found a type of bacteria in food samples from Fresh & Ready Foods. This bacteria was the same as the one that made people sick.

Fresh & Ready Foods said they fixed the problem quickly, for example by taking away some machines.

The FDA found that 6 out of 10 people who got sick were in the hospital before they got sick with listeria. The FDA also found that food from Fresh & Ready Foods was given in at least 3 of the hospitals where these people were before.

The CDC said they took test samples from sick people from December 2023 to September 2024.

Fresh & Ready has taken back some products. You can tell which ones by the 'use by' dates. These dates are from April 22 to May 19 this year. The products have different names: Fresh & Ready Foods, City Point Market Fresh Food to Go, and Fresh Take Crave Away.
