He gives sad speeches about the world.

But on Thursday he said he still has hope.

He said this hope needs governments to work together.

Guterres said the world has three big problems.

The first problem is artificial intelligence.

It is growing fast and no one controls it.

The second problem is climate change.

It is moving fast too.

The third problem is inequality.

It is growing.

It causes trouble and fighting.

He also said a big split between countries has stopped the Security Council.

Strong countries break international law.

They break the U.N. Charter too.

He said this makes a climate of impunity.

He gave examples.

Russia attacked Ukraine.

The U.S. attacked Iran.

He said these actions caused death and much damage.

The wars in Ukraine and the Middle East hurt the world economy too.

Food and energy prices are going up.

Interest rates are going up.

Poor countries struggle to help their people.

He hopes these problems push countries to work together.

No one can fix them alone.

Guterres said some groups must change.

These are the U.N., the Security Council, the IMF and the World Bank.

They should show today's world and its new powers, he said.

As U.N. chief he has no army and little money.

But he can speak out.

He can bring nations together.

He said the U.N. has no power for peace in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The split between countries is too big.

Still, he said he defended the U.N. Charter.

He condemned human rights abuses.

He condemned Hamas's attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

He condemned Israel's actions in Gaza too.

He also asked for world cooperation.

He asked for guardrails for AI.
