Google's app on iPhones will have a new "Simplify" button. This button uses AI to make difficult words on the internet easier to read. You don't need to leave the website to use it.
Simplify is a tool developed by Google that uses Gemini to make complex text easier to understand while keeping the important details. Google's tests showed that the simplified text helped users understand and remember the original information more effectively.
Google wants people to use its tools and services when they need help with difficult topics. It hopes that by offering a feature like 'Simplify,' people will stay with Google instead of using other popular tools like ChatGPT.
You can use Simplify by choosing text on a website you visit with the Google app. Then, press the Simplify button. You will see the text in an easier way to understand and keep reading.
Google's blog shows an example of how this could work. For example, you might read a sentence that says: "This health problem hurts the lungs in many ways. It damages the lung tissue, causes scars, changes the lung's defense cells, makes more special substances, and changes the blood vessels in the lungs."
This is a complicated lung problem. It hurts the lungs in two ways. First, emphysema hurts the small air bags in the lungs. Second, the lung tissue gets many scars, which is called fibrosis. The cells that fight sickness in the lungs change. The body also makes more things that control how the body fights sickness. The blood tubes in the lungs change a lot too.
Google says the idea is to help people understand difficult things more easily when they are learning something new online.
Google said that our models need to explain hard ideas in a simple way, without making mistakes or leaving out important parts. The new text should help people understand difficult things, but still keep the main meaning.
Simplify is coming out for iPhone users this week.
