On Tuesday, Google announced the new Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition). They say this updated AI model is better than many common tests.
A new version of Gemini, called Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition), is now ready to use. You can find it through the Gemini API and Google’s platforms like Vertex AI and AI Studio. It costs the same as the older Gemini 2.5 Pro model. You can also use it in Google’s Gemini chatbot app on the internet and on your phone or tablet.
This model is coming out before Google's yearly I/O conference for developers. That's why it's called the "I/O edition." At the conference, Google will likely show many new models, as well as AI tools and platforms. The company is trying very hard to be popular and successful in the competitive AI market. Other companies like OpenAI and xAI are also about to release new models that are expected to work very well.
Google says that Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is much better now at coding and making websites that you can interact with. They also say it's improved at changing code for a certain purpose and editing code.
In a blog post, Google says that Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is the best on the WebDev Arena Leaderboard. This test checks how well a model can make nice-looking and useful web apps. Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is also very good at understanding videos. It got a score of 84.8% on a well-known test called VideoMME.
Google said that the new Gemini 2.5 Pro will be better for developers. It will fix problems like mistakes when programs call functions and make them happen more often. Google also said the model is good at making websites look nice while still doing what you tell it to do.
