The Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) can be accessed through the Gemini API, Google's Vertex AI, and AI Studio platforms, and it maintains the same pricing structure as the Gemini 2.5 Pro model it essentially supersedes. Furthermore, it is integrated into Google's Gemini chatbot application, accessible via both the web and mobile platforms.
The model's introduction precedes Google's yearly I/O developer event, accounting for the "I/O edition" label, during which Google is anticipated to reveal numerous models along with AI-driven utilities and environments. The corporation is aggressively vying for influence and market dominance in the intensely competitive AI arena, as competitors such as OpenAI and xAI are on the verge of launching models projected to be exceptionally capable.
Google says that Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is much better at coding and making interactive web apps. The company also says the model is better at changing code to do something specific and editing code.

Furthermore, Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) demonstrates cutting-edge performance in video understanding, attaining a score of 84.8% on VideoMME, a prominent benchmark in this domain.
In a blog post, Google said that for developers already using Gemini 2.5 Pro, this new version will improve coding performance and fix important issues developers have mentioned. These include making fewer errors in function calling and making function calling happen more often. Google also said that the model naturally prefers attractive web design but can still be guided.
