On Tuesday, Google announced Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition). This is a new version of their main AI model, Gemini 2.5 Pro. The company says it does better than many common tests.
You can use Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) with the Gemini API and on Google’s Vertex AI and AI Studio. It costs the same as the Gemini 2.5 Pro model it replaces. You can also find it in Google’s Gemini chatbot for the web and for mobile phones.
Google is releasing a new AI model before their yearly I/O meeting for developers. They plan to show many new AI models, tools, and platforms there. Google is working hard to be the leader in the very competitive AI market. Companies like OpenAI and xAI are also about to release new models that are expected to work very well.
Google says that Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is much better at coding and making interactive websites. The company also says the model is better at changing code to reach a goal and editing code.
In a blog post, Google says that Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is the best on the WebDev Arena Leaderboard. This test measures how well a model can create good-looking and useful web apps. Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is also very good at understanding videos. It scored 84.8% on a popular test called VideoMME.
Google wrote in a blog post that the new version of Gemini 2.5 Pro will help developers code better. It will also fix problems developers have talked about, like making function calls work better and happen more often. Google also said the model is good at making websites look nice and still follows instructions.
