On Tuesday, Google announced a new version of its main AI model, called Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition). The company says this new model performs better on many popular tests.
You can use the Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) with the Gemini API, Google’s Vertex AI, and AI Studio. It costs the same as the Gemini 2.5 Pro that it is replacing. You can also find it in Google’s Gemini chatbot on the internet and on your phone or tablet.
Google is releasing a new model before its yearly conference for developers. At this conference, Google will probably show many new AI models and tools. The company is in a difficult competition in the AI market. Other companies like OpenAI and xAI are also about to release very powerful models.
Google says their Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is much better at coding and creating websites that people can interact with. They also say the model is better at changing code to do different things and fixing mistakes in code.
In a blog post, Google says that Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is the best on the WebDev Arena Leaderboard. This is a test that checks how well a model can make web apps that look good and work well. Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is also very good at understanding videos. It got a score of 84.8% on a popular test called VideoMME.
Google announced that the new version of Gemini 2.5 Pro will be better for developers who already use it. It will help them write code more easily and fix problems they have mentioned, such as making fewer mistakes when using functions and making functions work more often. Google also said that the model is good at creating beautiful websites and users can still control how it works.
