As TikTok improves its search function, the social media platform is now showing reviews for certain places in the comments under a video. This new feature, which seems to be a trial, means you don't have to search again or use Google when you find a place on TikTok and want to know more about it.
If TikTok users have this new feature, they will find a "Reviews" tab on the right when they look at the video's comments.
For example, if you see a video of Central Park in New York City where the creator has marked the place, you will be able to see how many stars users gave the place, read their written opinions, and see their uploaded pictures, if there are any.
You can also click on a reviewer's name to go to their TikTok page from here. This is different from an older Google Maps feature, which used a Google Maps picture.
Some people might like the new feature, but others may feel it makes the user experience too busy when looking at content.
This action shows how TikTok is trying to develop its search features to compete with Google.
In 2022, a Google leader said that TikTok was affecting its main services, Search and Maps, especially for young people. Now, TikTok has become a strong competitor to Google in many ways.
TikTok is very popular with young people (Gen Z) for finding places. Last year, they also added a feature that lets users search using pictures. You can take a photo or upload one to find similar items to buy on TikTok Shop.
Also in September 2024, TikTok started a new way for advertisers to reach users through something called "TikTok Search Ads Campaigns." This system uses keywords, so that when someone searches for something, ads for certain brands can appear in the search results.
We don't know if TikTok will make its reviews tab available to more users, because the company did not want to say anything before this was published.
