J.T. Poston said he is not a quitter. He proved it at the Memorial.
He lost a four-shot lead on Sunday. This happened at Muirfield Village. Then he made three birdies in his last five holes. His birdie on 18 forced a playoff with Ryan Gerard.
Poston won on the second extra hole. Gerard missed a 6-foot par putt. Poston finished with a 72. He tied Gerard at 12-under 276. He said the finish was a dream come true. He also said it was a big boost for his career.
The key moment came at the 17th hole. Poston saved par from deep rough. Gerard made a long birdie putt. Jack Nicklaus is the tournament host. He said Poston had to make that putt. He also praised the pressure shot. Poston then birdied 18. He kept the playoff alive.
The win earned Poston $4 million. It also gave him spots in the next three majors. He moved to No. 39 in the world. He also qualified for the U.S. Open, the British Open, and next year’s Masters. Wyndham Clark finished third. Tommy Fleetwood and Sam Burns tied for fourth.
