AB Hernandez, a transgender athlete, won gold medals in high jump and triple jump at a California high school sports event. This caused a lot of talk and became big news. Hernandez could compete because of a new rule in California. This rule let another girl compete and win a medal if Hernandez did well. Even though she won, many people protested. They do not want transgender athletes to play in girls' sports. The California Interscholastic Federation made this new rule because Hernandez did well. It also followed California law, which says transgender students can play on teams that match their gender. But some people think this new rule makes things harder to understand. This disagreement is happening at the same time as a recent survey. This survey shows that about 7 out of 10 adults in the US believe transgender female athletes should not play in girls' and women's sports at any level.
