The Alpine Formula 1 team has a new driver. Franco Colapinto will race in the next five races instead of Jack Doohan.
Alpine said on Wednesday that Flavio Briatore will do the job that Oliver Oakes did before he left.
Alpine said Colapinto will race with Pierre Gasly from the race in Italy. They will check his performance before the race in Britain in July.
After six races, the Alpine team is ninth in the F1 competition. The next race is from May 16-18 in Imola.
At the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, Doohan hit another car on the first lap. Then, he crashed on the second lap.
Before the Miami race, Oakes said the news about changing drivers was not true. He said the new driver from Australia would stay in the car.
Doohan did not score any points in his seven races. His best finish was 13th place. Now, he will be the team's reserve driver again.
Jack Doohan is the son of Mick Doohan, a famous motorcycle champion. Jack started his first Formula 1 race this year for Alpine in Australia. He took the place of Esteban Ocon, who left Alpine because he had a difficult year in 2024.
Colapinto started working for Alpine as a reserve driver in January. Before that, he raced for Williams in 2024 and got five points. He got these points after he took Logan Sargeant's place in August.
