Freddie Freeman achieved two singles and drove in three runs with a bases-loaded triple, contributing significantly to the Los Angeles Dodgers' decisive 10-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
Freeman was instrumental in the Dodgers' success, driving in four runs and prolonging his hitting streak to 12 games, contributing to their series victory in Miami and extending their streak of consecutive series wins to four. Over the series, Freeman showcased exceptional form, going 8 for 13 with six RBIs and two home runs.
On Wednesday, Shohei Ohtani achieved a triple and was walked three times, notably receiving an intentional pass during the seventh inning's six-run surge against pitcher Lake Bachar.
Substitute player James Outman extended the Dodgers’ advantage with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Landon Knack (2-0) yielded four hits and zero runs, registering five strikeouts after being summoned earlier Wednesday from Triple-A Oklahoma City; Matt Sauer, who was also recalled, took over for Knack and threw the final four innings to earn his first career save.
Miami's starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo, delivered a dominant performance, yielding only a solitary hit and fanning seven over five and a third shutout innings. He was subsequently relieved by Cade Gibson in the sixth inning, preempting a third confrontation with Ohtani. Ohtani capitalized on the opportunity, lacing a triple off Gibson (0-1) in the ensuing at-bat.
Promising young catcher Augustin Ramirez contributed a single and a double for the Marlins, who currently hold a record of 14 wins and 22 losses, having won only two of their last eleven games.
Jesús Sánchez singled in the sixth inning, contributing Miami's sole run through a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
In the seventh inning, the Dodgers decisively broke the game open against Bachar, who, upon entering, issued a walk, a single, and a run-scoring single. With first base unoccupied, Bachar deliberately walked Ohtani before subsequently walking Mookie Betts with the bases loaded. Freeman's ensuing bases-clearing triple was followed by yet another run-scoring single.
The Dodgers struggled offensively, securing just a solitary hit over the initial five innings against Bellozo, before significantly improving their performance with eleven hits off four different Miami relief pitchers.
The Dodgers initiate a four-game series in Arizona on Thursday, featuring RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (4-2, 0.90) as their starting pitcher. The Marlins have a day off Thursday before RHP Max Meyer (2-3, 3.92) commences the initial game of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
