Neil Armstrong’s boyhood home in Wapakoneta, Ohio, is for sale.
It is the first time in nearly 40 years.
In this house, Armstrong built model planes.
He tested them in a basement wind tunnel.
He also launched model airplanes from his upstairs bedroom window.
The owner is Karen Mikesell.
She is a retired history teacher and former school principal.
She bought the house in 1988.
At that time, she did not know Armstrong had lived there.
She said she felt a duty to keep it the way the Armstrong family had it.
Mikesell has hosted nine astronauts, including Buzz Aldrin.
She remembered that Aldrin cried when he visited Armstrong’s bedroom.
That happened after Armstrong died in 2012.
She has also received gifts like a moon rock and gold foil from the Apollo 11 capsule.
Armstrong’s family moved into the home in 1944.
He got his pilot’s license at age 16.
He landed on the moon in 1969.
The house is listed at $430,000.
Mikesell is 82 years old.
She hopes a buyer might give it to the Armstrong museum.
The museum cannot afford to buy it.
