A federal judge gave an order on Thursday.

The Kennedy Center must give 30 days' notice before big changes to the building.

This includes tearing the building down.

President Donald Trump has threatened to do that.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper said the order would stop confusion.

The building closed to the public suddenly on Wednesday.

Matt Floca is the center's executive director and chief operating officer.

He said he closed it for a short time.

He said there were "acute risks to public safety" from the building falling apart.

The building will stay closed for at least seven days.

Workers will check safety risks in areas with bad damage.

Floca said the closure came after a check of the roof terrace canopy.

It also came after part of a ceiling fell earlier this month.

This is separate from a board vote on Tuesday.

The board voted to close the center for repairs with no end date.

Trump was named the center's chairman last year.

Board members who support him chose him.

On Wednesday, Trump said his repair work deserves praise.

He said that without it, the building would close and "end up being ripped down."

The closure came after Rep. Joyce Beatty filed a case.

She is an Ohio Democrat and a board member.

She asked for an emergency hearing to stop what she called an "unlawful closing."

Cooper said no to Beatty's request for a hearing about the board's plan.

But he agreed to make one thing clear.

Tearing down the building requires 30 days' notice.

The board supports Trump.

It voted to close the center after Cooper stopped it from putting Trump's name back on the building.

Congress gave $257 million for repairs.

But Trump said the repairs would only happen if the board could add his name.

Barbra Streisand was honored in 2008.

She called the dispute "galling and painful to witness."
