After Los Angeles acclaim, Dudamel moves on to New York

At the tender age of fourteen, Gustavo Dudamel visited New York for the first time and bounced around on the giant keyboard at FAO Schwarz.

The opening concert, held on September 10 at Radio City Music Hall, was hosted by actor Liev Schreiber, and the lineup of performers included Lizzo, St. Vincent, Joaquina, and Aaron Tveit.

The celebrations then moved to the Rainbow Room high above Manhattan to continue.

"Gustavo Dudamel is not an easy man to describe," Scheiber told the concert audience.

"Music belongs so profoundly to moments like this," Dudamel said softly.

"There are no borders. What there are is bridges," Dudamel said.

Just one month after taking up his post, the orchestra will set off on 9 October for a two-week European tour of ten performances, and then return in November to Carnegie Hall — its home from 1891 to 1962 — to perform a concert version of Puccini's Tosca.
