Grammy Award-winning artist Chris Brown faced formal charges in England on Thursday, following accusations of assaulting a music producer at a London nightclub in 2023, according to prosecuting authorities.

Following his arrest at a Manchester hotel, Brown, 36, was formally charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm.

According to The Sun, who initially broke the story, producer Abe Diaw claimed he required hospitalization following an unprovoked assault by Brown at Tape nightclub in London's affluent Mayfair district in February 2023, during Brown's U.K. tour.

The tabloid claimed to have learned of Brown's presence in the U.K. on Wednesday and subsequently contacted police to ascertain whether he was in custody; the newspaper further reported that officers from London's Metropolitan Police travelled to Manchester to effect the arrest.

Brown's spokesperson offered no immediate response to the Associated Press's request for comment.

Brown remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before Manchester Magistrates' Court for a hearing on Friday morning.

Rising to prominence as a teenage sensation in 2005, Brown, affectionately known as Breezy, has since solidified his position as a prolific hitmaker, boasting a repertoire of chart-topping singles including "Run It," "Kiss Kiss," and "Without You."
