New taxes on goods have made companies worried. Some big shops in the U.S. have already made prices higher, or said they will soon.
Donald Trump put new taxes on many things coming into America. Some countries, like China, did the same to America. Some taxes are lower now, but many are still there for businesses.
Companies pay taxes on things they buy from other countries. This makes things cost more. The companies then sell these things to people for more money. Some people think new taxes will help the U.S. make more things here. But many things we buy come from all over the world. Experts say that taxes will make many things cost more, like food and car repairs.
Some shops are raising prices now. Here are some big shops that say prices will go up because of trade problems.
Walmart is now on the list. On Thursday, the shop said prices will go up. This is because things from other countries cost more.
Walmart buys many things from the U.S., but some things cost more now. Prices at Walmart went up a little in April and more this month. They will go up even more in June and July, when people buy things for school.
John, a money manager at the company, said that some prices will go up. For example, bananas from Costa Rica are now 54 cents, more than 50 cents. Also, car seats from China at Walmart may cost $100 more.
Rainey told a newspaper that they want low prices, but they can only do so much. Other shops are the same.
Mattel, who makes Barbie and Hot Wheels, said they will sell some toys for more money because of new taxes.
The toy maker makes some of its toys in China. It said prices may go up on May 5. This was before the U.S. and China made a deal to lower taxes for a short time. But taxes are still higher than before.
Mattel said they will make about 500 toys in other countries instead of China this year. Last year, they did this for about 280 toys. For some popular toys, they will use factories in different countries.
In May, Microsoft made the price of Xbox consoles and controllers higher in many countries. For example, the Xbox Series S is now $379.99 in the U.S. It was $299.99 in 2020, so the price went up $80. The Xbox Series X will be $599.99. Before, it was $499.99, so the price went up $100.
Microsoft said it knows these changes are hard. They said this in May. They talked about problems in the market and that making new things costs more.
Microsoft said the price of Xbox will change in Europe, the UK, and Australia. Prices in other countries will also change. Some new games will cost more later this year, about $80.
Last month, Temu and Shein said prices will go up. They said this is because of changes in trade rules.
In April, some things got more expensive. This happened because of a rule about products from China. Now, the U.S. and China made a deal, but some products from China still cost more.
Before this change, Temu seemed to stop sending goods from China. They started to use things they already had in America. The shop, owned by a Chinese company, still shows many items from "local" stores. These stores have "no extra import costs" for people in America. Also, Shein says that the price you see includes all taxes, so you don't need to pay more when it arrives.
Stanley Black & Decker makes tools. They said prices went up in April. They will go up again in July, August, and September because things cost more to bring into the country.
Donald Allan, Jr. said last month that they are changing their supply chain and looking at all choices to make tariffs have less effect on customers and keep the business safe.
Procter & Gamble makes things like Crest, Tide, and Charmin. They said they may need to charge people more money. They are trying to pay less for things they buy. But prices might go up in July.
