Companies that buy products made in other countries have to pay extra taxes called tariffs. This makes things more expensive, and often customers have to pay these higher prices. Mr. Trump thought his new tariffs would bring factories and money back to the United States. However, many of the things we buy depend on materials from all over the world. Economists have warned that these tariffs could make prices go up in many places, like grocery stores and car repair shops.

Many companies and their customers know this is happening. Here are some popular stores that have recently said prices will go up, or are expected to do so, because of the ongoing trade war:

Even though Walmart is trying to buy more goods in America to avoid some taxes, they are still having problems. Company leaders said on Thursday that some prices in Walmart stores started to increase at the end of April. The price increases are happening faster this month. However, June and July will be worse, because that is when people buy things for going back to school.

John David Rainey, who is the main financial person at the company, said that the prices of many important things are going up. For example, the price of bananas from Costa Rica has increased from 50 cents to 54 cents per pound. He thinks that a car seat made in China, which costs $350 at Walmart now, might cost $100 more soon.

This toy company makes 40% of its toys in China. On May 5th, they said prices might go up. This was before the US and China agreed to lower some taxes for 90 days. But the taxes are still higher than before last month.

In early May, Microsoft increased the prices of its Xbox consoles and controllers around the world. The more powerful Xbox Series X will cost $599.99, a $100 increase from the previous price of $499.99.

Last month, big online shopping companies Temu and Shein both said they would change their prices. Their announcements were very similar. They both mentioned "new rules and taxes for international business."

From the end of April, many people saw that prices for some products were higher. This was especially true because of a rule ending on May 2nd. This rule helped products from China that didn't cost much money to avoid taxes. Online shops used this rule for a long time. Then, this week, the US and China made an agreement that made things a little better. But these products still have taxes. For example, if a cheap package comes from China through the post office, it now has a tax of 54%. Before, it was 120%.

Even before this extra time was over, it looked like Temu had already stopped sending things from China. Instead, they used things they already had in America. This shop, owned by the Chinese company PDD Holdings, still advertises many items from "local" warehouses. They say that American customers "don't have to pay import fees" for these items. At the same time, Shein, which is based in Singapore, now has a message on their payment page that says: "The prices you see include taxes. You won’t need to pay anything extra when your order arrives."
