The union for Starbucks workers in America says that over 2,000 baristas at 120 stores have started striking since Sunday. They are protesting the company's new rules about what they can wear.

But the Starbucks Workers United, which represents workers in 570 Starbucks stores in America, thinks the rules about what to wear should be decided together through talking and agreeing as a group.

On Wednesday, the Starbucks workers' union said that about 1,000 workers went on strike at 75 shops in America. Starbucks said that the strike didn't affect their 10,000 shops in America much, and some shops were only closed for less than an hour because of it.

People who read the Associated Press have different ideas about this dress code. Some think Starbucks workers shouldn't complain because many shops have rules about what people wear. Others say Starbucks should focus on making their drinks better, having good prices, and making sure their workers are happy, instead of worrying too much about what they wear.

Since 2021, the Starbucks Workers United group has been trying to create unions in Starbucks stores in the United States. Even though Starbucks and the union have agreed to talk again in February 2024, they still haven't made a contract agreement.

This week, the workers' union said they told the National Labor Relations Board that Starbucks didn't discuss the new uniform rules with them as a group.
