Trade actions have made companies worried. Some shops in the U.S. have put prices up, or said they will soon.
Donald Trump put new taxes on many things coming into America. Other countries like China did the same. Some taxes are lower now, but many are still there for businesses.
Companies pay taxes on things they buy from other countries. This makes things cost more. Then, shops sell things for more money. Some people think new taxes will help our country. But things we buy come from many places. Experts say taxes will make many things cost more.
Some shops are now raising prices because of trade problems. Here are some big shops that say prices will go up:
Walmart is the newest company to say it will sell things for more money. This is because it costs more to get things from other countries.
Walmart buys many things from America, but not everything. So, prices at Walmart went up a little in April and May. They will go up more in June and July, when people buy things for school.
John, who works at the company, said that some prices are going up. For example, bananas from Costa Rica now cost more. They were 50 cents, but now they are 54 cents. Also, car seats from China cost $350 at Walmart, but they will probably cost $100 more.
Rainey told the news: "We want prices to be low. But we can only do so much, and other shops are the same."
The toy company Mattel, who make Barbie and Hot Wheels, said they will need to make some toys cost more because of new taxes.
The toy maker makes many toys in China. They said prices may go up on May 5. This was before the U.S. and China made a deal for 90 days to lower some taxes. But taxes are still higher than before.
Mattel said they will make about 500 toys in other countries instead of China this year. Last year, they did this for about 280 toys. For some popular toys, they will use factories in different countries.
In May, Microsoft made Xbox games and controllers more expensive in shops. For example, the Xbox Series S now costs $379.99 in the U.S. It was $299.99 before. The Xbox Series X now costs $599.99. It was $499.99 before.
Microsoft said it knows these changes are hard. This was in an update in May. The company said things are changing in the market and it costs more to make things.
Microsoft also said the price of Xbox will change in Europe, the U.K., and Australia. Other countries will know more soon. Some new games from Microsoft will cost more this year, about $80.
Last month, Temu and Shein said their prices are going up. They said this is because of new rules about trade.
In April, some things got more expensive. This happened because of a rule about products from China. Now, the U.S. and China have a new deal, so it is a little better. But some products from China still cost more money.
Before this change, Temu seemed to stop sending goods from China. They used things they already had in the U.S. The shop still shows many items from U.S. stores with "no extra import costs." Shein says that the price you see includes all costs. You don't pay more when it arrives.
The company Stanley Black & Decker said prices went up in April. They plan to raise prices again soon because things cost more.
Donald Allan, Jr. said last month that they are changing their supply chain to lower the effect of taxes on customers and protect their company.
Procter & Gamble makes things like Crest and Tide. They said prices might go up for shoppers soon because things cost more for them now.
