Starbucks workers did not like the new rules for clothes, so they stopped working on Thursday.

Many Starbucks workers are on strike. They don't like the new rules about what they can wear. The workers are at 120 shops in the U.S. They started on Sunday. A group called Starbucks Workers United is helping them.

Starbucks workers must follow new rules for clothes from Monday. They need to wear a black shirt and black, blue, or brown pants. This is for workers in the U.S. and Canada.

Before, baristas could wear more dark colors and patterns. Now, Starbucks wants green aprons to be seen more, so customers feel good in the shops.

Starbucks workers in a union said they want to talk about the dress code. The union speaks for workers in many Starbucks stores.

Paige Summers works at Starbucks. She thinks Starbucks is not doing well. She says Starbucks should listen to its workers. She thinks the new rules about clothes are not important. She says customers care more about their drinks.

Some people said the company was wrong to sell clothes with the Starbucks name that workers can't wear to work anymore. Starbucks said they would give each worker two free black shirts when they told them about the new rules for clothes.

On Wednesday, the Starbucks Workers Union said 1,000 workers did not work at 75 shops in the U.S. Starbucks said the strike did not change much at its 10,000 U.S. shops. They said some shops closed for a short time.

Starbucks said it would be better if the union tried to talk to them, instead of only protesting. Most of their stores are open and helping people.

People who read the news had different ideas about the rules for clothes at Starbucks. Some said the workers should not complain, because many shops have rules about clothes. Others said Starbucks should make better drinks and keep workers happy, not worry about clothes.

Maddie Mucklow works at a Starbucks in Seattle. She likes the new rules.

Mucklow said, "I think the new clothes rule was hard for my work friends. But it helps us know how to dress well and still be ourselves."

Since 2021, workers at Starbucks in the U.S. are joining a group called Starbucks Workers United. Starbucks and the group have not made a deal yet, even though they said they would talk again in February 2024.

The workers' group said they told the labor board that Starbucks did not talk about the new dress rules.
