When President Trump talks about trade, people do not understand.

Trump says the US doesn't need to sign deals. He can sign many deals now. He wants good deals for everyone. He doesn't care about other countries' markets. His team can talk about a deal. He might put taxes on goods himself.

"I don't understand it," Chad Bown wrote in an email.

People are worried, and money markets are not stable.

Trump wants to keep some taxes on things from other countries. He thinks these taxes can make a lot of money for the government. Other countries want to make a deal to stop these taxes.

Trump said tariffs are good for the country and will make it rich.

This year, the U.S. government got $45.9 billion from taxes on things from other countries. This is $14.5 billion more than last year. This money could go up a lot because of different taxes on things from other countries like China and on things like steel and cars.

To pay back the big debt and lower taxes, the tariffs need to make a lot of money each year. This is very difficult to do.

The Republican government said 17 countries want to trade with them. They gave ideas for a deal.

But other leaders don't know what Trump wants or how to make deals that stay good.

Canada's leader talked with Mr. Trump. He said the new deal must be stronger. This is because Mr. Trump put a tax on some things from Canada. Canada did not like this tax.

Carney said, 'Some things need to change.'

Big taxes on things from China and the U.S. make talks hard.

The first talks between the U.S. and China will start this weekend in Switzerland. They will try to make things calmer so they can talk better later.

China makes many things. People in other countries buy them. This is a problem for some countries.

"China is very important in this trade problem," Bessent said. "What will happen with China?"

China says the US should stop bad words and taxes to start talks again.

Lin said on Tuesday: "If the U.S. wants to talk, it must stop threats. It should talk with China like friends, with respect."

On Wednesday, someone asked Trump about trade with China. They asked if he would make it cheaper to talk. Trump said no.

The president said China was wrong about the meeting.

Does Congress need to agree to deals?

That is not always right.

Trump put taxes on things from other countries. He did this without asking the government. Some people are not happy about this.

Before, presidents like Trump made small deals with China about trade. A report says this.

Trump wants other countries to change their rules if the U.S. changes its taxes.

A report says the House and Senate must say yes to the deal.

Is it good if Trump just says yes?

Trump might make deals in his country and add taxes on things from other countries if they don't agree.

Maybe Trump will not put new taxes on things from other countries if they give him things. Or maybe he will stop the taxes and not get much.

Trump often asks for a lot and then changes his mind.
