South Korea said a court in the Czech Republic stopped a plan to build two nuclear power plants for a short time, but they believe the plan will still happen.
A group from South Korea, led by the government company Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power, thought they would finish the deal this week with a part of CEZ, the biggest electricity company in the Czech Republic. But a court in the Czech Republic stopped CEZ from signing the paper. The court is checking a problem from a French company called EDF. EDF did not get the chance to do the project.
South Korean Minister Ahn Dukgeun said the court's decision would only make the contract signing later. He said everything else would still happen on time if the deal is made. He also said the Czech government did not think the court would stop the agreement, and that CEZ wants to ask the court to change its mind.
We don't know when the court in the Czech Republic will decide about that appeal.
Mr. Ahn said, "The Czech government did not think this was a big problem. They asked us to come to the signing ceremony that was planned." He also said, "It seems the Czech government's idea was not the same as what the court decided."
On Wednesday, the leader of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, said his government agreed with the court's decision. He also said: "I think the judges know how important this decision is and how it affects the safety of our country and what is good for us."
Lee Ju-Ho, who is in charge of South Korea now, said that South Korea will work closely with the Czech Republic to finish the deal fast.
In July, a company from Korea was chosen to build two big power plants at Dukovany. They were chosen instead of a company from France. The French company was not happy about this. Last week, they went to court because they thought the choice was not fair.
Before he left his job last month, the former South Korean President, Yoon Suk Yeol, wanted to sell more nuclear power to other countries. He said it was hard to sell nuclear power because the last government tried to use less nuclear energy in South Korea. Yoon's government wanted to sell 10 nuclear power plants by 2030.
