Sotheby's stopped selling some jewels. India did not want them to sell the jewels.

The old stones were found in India in 1898 with things from the Buddha. They are very old, from about 240-200 BC.

But India's culture group said stop the sale. They said it was against the law.

The group sent a letter to Sotheby’s. They said the auction has important Buddhist items. These items are part of India's history and are important for Buddhist people. They asked for the items to be sent back to India. They also want Sotheby’s and Chris Peppé to say sorry.

Peppé is the great-grandson of William Peppé. William was from Britain.

India said if you don't do what they say, they will go to court. They will also tell people you helped sell old religious things that were taken from India.

Sotheby's said it will hold the event later.

We can talk about things together, and we will give you the news when we have it.

Some pages on the Sotheby's website about the sale were gone on Wednesday.

India's culture ministry said on Facebook they were happy because the sale stopped.
