Nonetheless, the Indian Ministry of Culture, in a Facebook communiqué disseminated on Tuesday, declared it had dispatched a legal injunction to Sotheby's Hong Kong branch, mandating the immediate cessation of the impending auction. The Ministry vociferously denounced the auction as an affront to "Indian laws, international norms and UN conventions," positing that it encompassed sacrosanct Buddhist relics, which are an inalienable religious and cultural patrimony of the Buddhist community both within India and globally.

In a missive dispatched to Sotheby's Hong Kong branch on Monday, the Indian government peremptorily demanded the repatriation of the sacred artifacts slated for auction, along with a public apology from both the auction house and Chris Peppé, purportedly the great-grandson of William Peppé, the Englishman credited with the original excavation of these relics.

인도 정부는 서한을 통해, 만일 요구에 부응하지 않을 시, 법적 대응과 더불어 해당 경매 회사가 "식민 시대의 부당한 행태를 답습하고 종교적 유물의 비도덕적 매각에 가담하는 소행"이라는 공론의 장을 마련할 것임을 천명하며 경고하였다.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Sotheby's acknowledged the concerns raised by the Indian government, stating that the postponement of the auction was effectuated by mutual accord with the consignors.
