Hezbollah on Thursday rejected a new ceasefire plan with Israel. The group said Israel must leave Lebanon fully and stop the fighting first. Hezbollah leader Naim Kassem said the talks were “absurd, humiliating and insulting.” He said Hezbollah would not agree to leave the south while it was still under attack.
At the same time, Israeli strikes killed at least four people in Lebanon, local authorities said. A U.N. peacekeeper from Serbia was also killed, and two others were hurt. Lebanon’s state news agency said a drone strike killed one man in Maaroub and airstrikes killed three people in Sohmor.
Drone alerts sounded in northern Israel after Kassem’s statement. The Israeli army said it was trying to stop several drones near soldiers in southern Lebanon, and no one was hurt. Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir said the war was putting pressure on towns in northern Israel.
Lebanese troops moved into the village of Dibbine after Israeli forces left the area. The fighting has killed more than 3,500 people in Lebanon and has forced over 1.2 million people to leave their homes. Israel says it will keep fighting until Hezbollah is no longer a threat.
