A trans-Atlantic plume of Saharan dust, constituting this year's most substantial incursion, traverses the Caribbean Sea and is presently vectored towards the United States; this aerosolized mineral particulate matter, extending across a latitudinal span of 2000 miles from Jamaica to Barbados and a longitudinal reach of 750 miles from the Turks and Caicos Islands to Trinidad and Tobago, has precipitated the issuance of public health advisories due to elevated concentrations triggering respiratory and ocular irritations such as sneezing, coughing, and lacrimation. The Saharan Air Layer, originating over the Saharan Desert, migrates westward across the Atlantic between April and October, concomitantly inhibiting the genesis of tropical waves during the Atlantic hurricane season; prognostications indicate that this dust cloud will impinge upon Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi later this week, following the precedent set by the record-breaking "Godzilla dust cloud" of June last year, which blanketed the Caribbean in the most extensive such event documented in half a century.
