An explosion at a chemical factory in Weifang, a city in eastern China, has killed at least five people and injured 19. Six people are still missing. The blast happened at a factory owned by Gaomi Youdao Chemical Co., which makes pesticides and medical chemicals. It broke windows in nearby buildings and sent a lot of smoke into the sky. Students at a nearby school said they smelled something strange after the explosion. More than 230 workers went to the site, and a team is checking for possible pollution. This event happened after a national meeting about making the chemical industry safer, which shows that there are still safety problems in China. Last year, the Gaomi Youdao factory was praised for managing risks well, because they found and fixed over 800 safety problems.
