Lukas Furtenbach, un guide de montagne, a aidé une équipe anglaise à monter l'Everest très vite. Ils ont utilisé un gaz spécial, le xénon. L'équipe est partie de Londres le 16 mai, a atteint le sommet le 21 mai et est rentrée chez elle deux jours après. Ce gaz devait protéger les alpinistes du mal des montagnes. Mais il y a eu des problèmes et les autorités du Népal font une enquête. Avant de monter, les alpinistes se sont entraînés dans des tentes spéciales et ont utilisé le gaz xénon dans une clinique en Allemagne. Furtenbach pense que monter plus vite peut aider l'environnement, car il y aura moins de déchets. Il dit que le gaz xénon n'a jamais été utilisé au Népal. Il est sûr de pouvoir prouver qu'il n'est pas dangereux pour les alpinistes.
