Some countries in the EU said people from the new countries could not come for a few years. But the UK said yes quickly, and people could come and work there.

In 2010, the UK leader wanted fewer people to come to the UK. But this did not happen. Many people were angry about people coming from Europe. So, the UK left Europe in 2016.

After Brexit, many people came to the UK. More people came than left. This number was very big.

Many people came to the UK in small boats.

Starmer wants to stop the bad people who help others cross the sea.

Now he says he wants fewer people to come and live here legally.

Starmer used words like the group that wanted Brexit. He said his government will control the borders again.

He said the government before let many people come to the country. The country wanted to stop this. He said this will not happen again.

The government has new rules for jobs. Fewer people from other countries can get some jobs. The government wants people from Britain to do these jobs.

Starmer said the UK economy used too many cheap foreign workers. He said the government will help British workers learn new skills.

With the new rules, people from other countries must live in the UK for 10 years to become a citizen. Now, it is 5 years. Some people can become citizens faster if they help the country and become part of the community.

Starmer said that people coming to Britain is part of our history. But he said we need rules. If not, we might feel like strangers. We won't be a country that goes forward together.
