Vietnam had a celebration for the end of the war with the US.

Saigon fell on April 30, 1975. This meant Vietnam was one country again, not two. The leader said they were more together now.

To Lam said, 'Vietnamese people are from Vietnam. They have the right to live and work here. They can be free to find happiness and love in this country.'

He said, "We want Vietnam to be a country of peace. We want to be one, happy and strong."

Many people stayed outside in the city all day. They wanted to see the parade, drones, and fireworks.

The city had many red and yellow flags. You could see them on buildings, on people's faces, and on T-shirts.

"Now it is time for peace," said Nguyen Thi Hue, who lives in the city. "Peace is the dream that everyone in the world wants."

To Lam said they won against the U.S. and South Vietnam. Taking Saigon was a great time. This ended a long fight for freedom.

He said Vietnam is strong today because of help from the Soviet Union and China. People in Laos and Cambodia were also friends. Good people everywhere, even in the U.S., helped Vietnam too.

Susan Burns from the U.S. was at the event. The U.S. ambassador was not there.

Around 13,000 people were in the parade. Soldiers, veterans, and local people were there. The parade went on the main street to the Independence Palace. Then, it went on other streets and past the U.S. Consulate.
