Rodrigo Duterte is in The Hague. But he was a candidate in the election. People voted for many seats. This election can show if he and his family will stay in power.
Duterte is in prison now. He is waiting for a court case because people say he did bad things when he was president. But he still wants to be the mayor of a city.
In the Philippines, people can try to be politicians even if they are in prison, if a judge has not said they did something wrong.
People think Duterte will win as mayor of Davao. He was mayor for more than 20 years before he was president. He is in prison. It is not clear how he can be mayor if he is in prison.
Many Filipinos can vote today for new leaders.
Voting stopped at 7 p.m. Voters in line could still vote. The first results might be ready in a few hours. The final results will be ready in a week.
People are watching the Senate race. It is important for Sara Duterte, the Vice President and daughter of Duterte. Some people say she did bad things. They say she wanted to hurt the President and used money in a wrong way. She says these things are not true. She says her political enemies are saying this to hurt her.
Sara Duterte wants to be president in 2028. But if the Senate says she did something wrong, she cannot be vice president anymore. She also cannot have a job in the government. She needs 9 senators out of 24 to say she is okay.
The 2025 elections are important. They will show what happens next.
Sara Duterte could lose her job. This could mean the end of the Duterte family in important jobs. Her family is also in the election. Her brother Sebastian is running for vice mayor in Davao. Her other brother Paolo wants to be in the House of Representatives again. Two grandsons want local jobs too.
Marcos and Sara Duterte had problems, so Rodrigo Duterte was arrested.
Earlier on Monday, Sara Duterte voted in Davao. Marcos voted in Batac City, his town in the north.
She told reporters she would be okay if the people she wanted did not win.
She said: "My father will not be here. We think the vice mayor will be the mayor for a short time."
Marcos asked Filipinos to vote in a video before the election.
Her father's friend, Apollo Quiboloy, also wants to be a senator. But he is in prison because people say he did bad things.
There were problems during the voting. In one city, two people died and seven were hurt. In another place, two groups fought, and four people were hurt. In a different area, seven people died. Other people were also hurt in different places.
Some people fighting stopped voting in some places. Some voters said their names were not on the list. Some people said they waited a long time in the hot weather.
Reymark voted. He said the winners in 2022 did not do what they said. He said the next vote is not just about Duterte or Marcos. It is about picking good leaders.
