Investigators are still trying to find out why an Amazon cargo plane went past the end of a runway in Miami on Sunday.

Five people on the ground died.

The Boeing 767 hit a van with a cleaning crew inside.

The van was on airport property.

Then the plane went through a fence and hit an SUV on a public street.

Five people in the van died.

Two other people in the van survived.

The pilot and co-pilot also lived.

The plane was landing after a two-hour flight from Puerto Rico.

Storms were starting near the airport.

The plane traveled about 1,300 feet past the end of the runway.

Jennifer Homendy is the chairwoman of the National Transportation Safety Board.

She called the scene "utter devastation."

She said jet fuel was still around the wreckage 24 hours later.

Experts watched video of the crash.

They said a strong wind from behind likely pushed the plane far down the runway.

The plane stayed in the air and did not lower its nose to land.

It is not clear why the pilot did not stop the landing.

Air traffic controllers did not change the direction of the approach.

So the plane did not land into a wind from the front.

The crash closed the airport for hours.

More than 225 flights were canceled.

The five people who died worked for Professional Ocean Service Corp.

That company cleans planes.

Amazon said it is helping with the investigation.

The NTSB will look at the plane's history and maintenance records.

It will also look at the work of 21 Air, the company that flew the plane.

The agency will also check the lack of a runway safety system.

Miami does not have this system.

Homendy said such systems must be put in place to stop future tragedies.
