East Potomac Park in Washington, D.C., has been a cheap public place for golfers, cyclists, and other people for a long time.

President Donald Trump now wants to make its golf course a top-level place for the sport.

He has visited the site with officials and building designers, and he has put his plans online.

Some people who live there worry that the changes will make fees higher and give people less access.

Joe Foley is a retired lobbyist in his 70s.

He said the plan takes away history and stops people from having a cheap place to play.

He had just finished nine holes for $36, and that price included a cart.

The park was started by a law from Congress in 1897.

The law said the park was for the "recreation and pleasure of the people."

The golf course opened in 1919.

Trump told people about his plans in late 2025.

In May, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum showed a picture of an 18-hole course.

He said it would give "championship-quality golf at affordable rates."

A lawsuit says the new building work would break the original law from Congress.

Jason Levitt is 54 and rides a bike.

He said the government seems to play by different rules.

He has used the park for 20 years and rides there about four times a week.

Ryan Bates is 44 and has a membership at a private club.

But he likes East Potomac because of where it is.

He said golf should be open to people from all parts of life.

Mayor Muriel Bowser is leaving her job soon.

She said the city could get top-level golf, but people still need public access.
