President Donald Trump said Wednesday that ICE should keep making traffic stops. He opposed a plan to stop most stops. This plan came after recent fatal shootings. He wrote on social media. He said ending stops would "play right into the criminal's hands." Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin later said he and Trump are "on the same page." They want officers to have all options.

Three people died during encounters with federal officers within a week. In Florida, a man died. He was hit by a tractor trailer while running from officers. Two motorists were shot and killed by ICE officers. One was in Texas. One was in Maine. After the Maine killing, officials told ICE to stop most vehicle stops.

Policing experts say shooting into moving cars is dangerous. They say it should be avoided. At least 10 deaths have happened in encounters with immigration agents. This is since Trump's deportation campaign began. Republican Senator Susan Collins urged a halt to non-urgent vehicle stops.

ICE says people being sought are staying in homes. This forces officers to find other ways to make arrests. More protests are planned. This is after the killing of Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Maine. DHS said he entered the U.S. illegally in 2023. But he was authorized to work. The officers involved did not have body cameras.
