A boat turned over in the lake. One person was missing. Now, we found that person. Eight people died in total.
On Saturday, a boat with ten people turned over. It was near a park. The Coast Guard said big waves made the boat turn over.
Two people were saved fast and went to the hospital. We don't know if they are okay. Six dead people were found on Saturday. One more dead person was found on Sunday. The police said this. Divers looked in the lake and found the last dead person on Monday.
Kyle Parker said we cannot say the names of the people who died yet. We need to tell their families first.
Some people have died in the lake. This happened in the last few years. Most people died by accident, like drowning. Big boat accidents where many people die are not common. The police said about six people die in the lake every summer. In 2021, 15 people died. That was a lot of people. The police do not have new numbers right now.
The storm was very strong. It surprised everyone, even the weather people. They thought it would rain a little, but it rained a lot. The storm hit the lake around 3 p.m. The wind was fast, and the water waves were big.
Chyba said, "We thought it was not very strong."
He said it was very cold there. It was colder than usual for this time of year. This may have made the air bad.
The waves on Tahoe were very big. They were 8 feet high. Chyba said the lake moved a lot.
Lake Tahoe is a nice lake between California and Nevada. People like to go there in the summer to boat and swim. The water is very cold.
We don't know who was on the boat that turned over. We don't know if they rented it or if it was theirs.
The storm on Saturday stopped after two hours.
Brittany Glick was on a boat with friends. They were having a party. The wind started to blow. The waves became big. It was sunny before, but then it got cold. It was hard to see.
It was like a very big wave was coming. I never felt this way before, she said.
The boat came back after one hour. The water was rough and wet. Then it started to hail.
"We were scared when we saw the boats upside down," Glick said. "The water made us very cold. We were shaking a lot. Our feet were cold, and our toes were blue. It was a very scary time for me. The storm came fast. It was very bad."
A video showed boats hitting each other at a port because of strong wind.
