The first alert was given for Fairbanks because the temperature there was expected to go above 85 degrees Fahrenheit, which is very unusual for June.

The warning system is currently only in Juneau and Fairbanks, but it will be expanded to Anchorage. Even though it's very hot, Anchorage's temperature has not yet reached the point where a heatwave warning is needed.
