Despite persistent demonstrations, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen affirmed the Trump administration's unwavering commitment to its immigration enforcement measures, even as a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order – subsequently stayed by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals – declaring the deployment of the National Guard to quell protests unlawful. This judicial interdiction, however, was specifically delimited to the National Guard units deployed in the immediate aftermath of the protests triggered by the aforementioned immigration enforcement actions, conspicuously excluding Marine Corps personnel. Governor Gavin Newsom lauded the judicial intervention, asserting the imperative for an immediate cessation of military units colluding in immigration raids. Concurrently, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly defended the President's actions as being within the purview of his authority. Nationwide protests continue unabated, with immigration officials in Los Angeles serving as a bellwether for other communities, yet Nielsen remains steadfast, articulating with unyielding resolve that federal authorities will not relent in their enforcement efforts.
